You then enter a typically French bar, which offers a wide selection of spirits, wines and good draft beer, like Kronenbourg and 1664.
After the first bar is the banqueting and dance hall with bar number two and open stage going into the newly refurbished stylish restaurant.
Our menu is both French and English offering a variety of cuisine from prawn cocktail or large gambas to escalope de foie gras poelee avec poire and magret de canard to filet steak and chips. Locally we have a good reputation for food, especially our fish in beer batter and chips as we have installed a professional frying system for fish.
Our menu du jour is a starter, main course and desert inc wine for 12.50€.
Our hall is available for hire for private functions with capacity of up to 120 persons.
The restaurant seats around 60 and normally we do not require pre booking
for dining except on fete days.

Make a Date with a Donkey at Pompadour Monday, 14 July 2008 Bastille Day
Bastille Day in Pompadour is famous for the organisation of National Donkey Day, this year for the 12th time. From far and wide donkeys come to Pompadour for a fun day in the Hippodrome.
The morning allows you to see all the donkeys, and some are for sale, and this year there will a ‘Vide Ecurie’ to allow all those with stables or barns to sell off what they find, or just to exhibit old artefacts and tools.
Each year there is a theme and this year it is ‘Folklore sans Frontières’ with professional dance and singing groups from Chile and Rumania. They will be accompanied by a group from France and for the whole afternoon there will be folklore entertainment on a stage facing the main stand at the racecourse. It will only be interrupted to permit the occasional donkey race!!
There are many other amusements for the family including spectacular helicopter rides over the area.

Fish and Chips in

Ed and Bets Vlug run a mobile
fish and chip service, but it is far more than that, with a whole range
of other delicious items.
The fish and chips are really tasty, great
value and come highly recommended.

Friday evenings at Montbron where you will find then outside the Pub Maurice from 6.00pm to 8.30pm where you can eat your meal inside the pub and enjoy a drink as well.
Ed and Bets have a new venue with the same set up at St Saud Lacoussiere where you can eat your meal inside the Bar L'Odyssee every Wednesday evening from 6.00pm to 8.30pm.
When you have tried them once you will be back for more!

I am trying to arrange a monthly get together for Mums.
I have a little girl of 3 1/2 called Zara who goes to the school in
Thiviers,
I have found it hard for us as there isn't the play groups we had in England.
So on the last Thursday of the month I am trying to get other Mums together for coffee.

Knitters unite!
Pinnyporn in the land of the crossover apron. Bringing Pinnyporn to Pompadour.
Based in the most rural part of France the Limousin.
Our group includes English, French and Dutch stitchers.
Our remit is wider than usual to include patchwork and other stitches.
We meet every fortnight on a Tuesday 10am to 12pm at The Auberge de l'Etrier in Beyssac a short distance from Pompadour Telephone 05 55 98 50 58
. Any knitters, sew 'n' sews etc welcome, or come and learn something new.
Amanda provides lovely drinks and homemade cakes.

A new contact group has been formed in the Haute Vienne town of St Yrieix La Perche - Limousin
The group is the brain child of Dutch couple Frans and Toke Verschuren, who, when thy moved to the town nearly 18 months ago, struggled at first to find much of the information they needed to establish them in their new life.
Apart from the British, it is hoped that local French and Dutch people will be joining too, enabling everyone to benefit from an exchange of language and culture.
The general monthly "meetings" will initially take the form of a casual drop in for coffee and a chat and will be driven by "user demand".
From this a range of activities will be developed to cater for the varying and individual interests of the group.

CSF provides an information and listening service for Anglophones affected by cancer, and currently has branches covering 5 Departments in France with three more in the pipeline.
They offer support through visits at home or in hospital, guide clients and their carers to other sources of advice and help, and provide access to written information about cancer and its treatment.

Hi my name is Simon Williams and I am a qualified and insured Karate instructor.
I have been training in Shotokan Karate for 30 years and teaching for over 20 years.
Karate classes are held every Thursday at St Mathieu Gymnase next to Ecomarche - 18.00 -19.00-Beginners.
Ages 7 plus taken.
We will be starting a new class in Cussac Gymnase, every Saturday 18.00 -19.00.
Starting first lesson Saturday the 12th January 2008.
Also a bit of good news we are now recognised by the French Federation for Karate, our Club is now affiliated to the FFkarate, Ligue de Limousin, Affilation Number 0870626, which means we can take part in all their competitions held throughout France.

Do you want to make a start in learning French?
Do you already speak some French and want to go further?
Beginners and Intermediate courses will take place at Salle des Associations in La Coquille in New Year 2008.
Courses of 10 lessons in conversational French will be held from Monday 21 January 2008.
Price for 10 lessons: 60€ per person, payable in advance.
There will also be limited time available before and after each lesson for ‘quick-fix’ translation of letters, documentation, etc.
There will be a meeting in mid January to give further details and organise the members of each group.

Payzac Dordogne From Payzac (just past the church on left) veer left following signs for Pompadour D75. After the bridge (over River Auvezere) turn right signposted St Cyr (D80). Continue for 2km and Le Moulin du Chatain is on the left.
